Setting Up My New Web Design Business

Those who personally know me will be aware that I have been busy lately setting up my own Web Design business. Last week I got the business name registered here in Queensland and applied for the ABN (Australian Business Number) earlier this week. Once i get confirmation that the ABN application was successful I will be making a full announcement of the business name and new website.

This is the first time I have gone through this process and while I had expected it to be daunting and a little overwhelming, it really has been quite simple. I’m not sure about other States, but I would assume the process would be similar to up here in Queensland; Register a business name, Register an ABN and off you go. Ok, so that IS a very simplified explanation but the point is the same.

As I mentioned, it is a Web Design business. I have been in this industry for a few years and have developed a lot of skills in both design and marketing, as well as Search Engine Optimization. Primarily I will be designing using the Joomla CMS system (what succeed2k.com is built upon), which allows for high quality, fully optimized sites with incredible flexibility and ease of use. Best of all, clients can edit and add content on the fly once they receive the finished product if they so wish to manage it themselves.

I also work with WordPress, which is still considered the worlds best blogging platform. WordPress allows for great sites and has a great efficient admin area but lacks the full flexibility of the Joomla system. I am often asked which one is better, but the truth is you can’t compare them. They are 2 very different systems and I personally use them for different types of websites.

Do I build custom sites? Of course, although to be honest these are not all that common these days, especially when Joomla can do the same thing in a fraction of the time, often with better results.

Keep an eye out over the next few weeks as I get closer to the official launch date of the new business. Of course, if you’re looking for a Website and need help, don’t hesitate to drop me an email and ask.
